The Old Mint (Alte Münz)
The Old Mint lies opposite the leaning house, between two arms of the river Blau.
Until 1624 the building served as the Ulm Mint (the saying: “Venice’s power, Augsburg’s pomp, Strasburg’s artillery, Nuremburg’s wit and Ulm’s money rule the world, probably stems from this time) and then until about 1900 as a sharpening mill and an oil and barley mill.
The water wheel on the south side is an indication of its past use. In 1589, brick exterior walls supplemented the mediaeval building. In 1620/1621 the renaissance-gabled upper storey was added.
