Hans-Christian Schink: Unter Wasser

For his project "Under Water", Hans-Christian Schink (*1961 in Erfurt) relied on "controlled chance". Without diving, i.e. without being able to control the image in the viewfinder, he held his camera in the ancient waters of the Mecklenburg Lake District, which were formed at the end of the last ice age, around 12,000 years ago. The pictures show an amazingly colourful and diverse underwater world: poetic, archaic and bizarre. Hans-Christian Schink is concerned with nothing less than the relationship between man and nature. Because even these underwater worlds are characterised by intensive agriculture and climate change - even though they have now been declared a protected area.
