City centre & shopping centre
If you love to go with the flow, the Hirsch-/Bahnhofsstrasse is the address to go to. It is Ulm's most buzzing shopping street and one of the most popular shopping miles in Germany: There is a great number of department stores, brand name businesses, and specialist shops. If you prefer a calmer shopping experience, you may rather enjoy the shops near Ulm Minster and the picturesque network of narrow streets in the old city centre. This is another asset of the city of Ulm: its broad and diverse selection of owner-run and very individualistic specialist shops.
The romantic fishermen's and tanners' quarter is located at the banks of the Danube River. Its crooked streets are home to long established and very original specialist shops. There are also goldsmiths, second-hand bookshops, and galleries. You can also find pleasant restaurant and coffee shops.
The Blautal-Center, located close to the city centre, is one of the largest shopping malls in Baden-Württemberg, with 100 shops and restaurants over 37,500 square metres – making it an interesting addition to the Ulm and Neu-Ulm city centres.
A pulsating counterweight is provided by Neu-Ulm's city centre which has changed a lot in the past few years thanks to redevelopment and renovation. At the newly created Petrus Platz, cafes, restaurants and some specialist shops have opened. Why not head from here into the Augsburger Straße, the long heart of Neu-Ulm which was designed in the 19th century as a contrast to the winding streets of Ulm.
Speaking of Neu-Ulm... In March 2015 opened the Glacis-Galerie shopping centre next to the train station Neu-Ulm. Glacis-Galerie, which is located right in the hearty of the city centre, has up to 100 shops on an area of 35,000 square metres offering a wide and modern variety of sectors and brands. You can use public transportation for a convenient ride to the centre. But there is also ample parking.
