In 1360, hewn, stone-blocks taken from the Stauffer town wall were used to construct the ›Gänsturm‹ (37.5 m high). The Austrian artillery destroyed the original pointed roof in 1796.

The tiles of the current hip roof were replaced in 1957 and in 2002; a clock was installed into the tower again.

The name of the ›Gänsturm‹ originates from the time when the town's geese were driven through the tower's gates to the goose meadows.
